Overall, quality is great and I am very happy with this purchase. Has been working for a year now without any major issues except for a little noise from time to time (which is tolerable and hardly noticeable).Received my cooler with a dented top. Was not affecting the cooler's performance but tried to get a new top from Newair.com who backs the warranty. NOT COVERED! They told me I needed to get Amazon to replace the unit. While it is not severely dented, I thought they would just send me a top piece because it easily comes apart for servicing. In fact after reading the warranty they do not cover too much of the product, even shipping or handling of defective parts are on you! Why bother giving a warranty at all! I put a basket on top of the cooler anyway so it covers the dent, therefore I just keep it for now. Put your money elsewhere since this is cheaply made and the warranty is worthless.When this box arrived, I was worried. The bottom was missing and the unit was held in by a plastic packing strap. I opened the box and it clearly had been a return. One of the side packing supports was missing, the unit was dirty and the hose had already been attached to the pump. I held my breath and set it up.Thankfully, it was super easy to set up and use. I purchased a five gallon water bottle from Home Depot. It was easy to pop of that lid and insert the pump then slide the bottle inside. There are power switches on the back for the Hot and Cold, so be sure to have both set to ON or you will just have room temperature water. It takes about an hour for cold water and 20 mins for hot. Please note: the hot water has a safety button on the front of the lever. You have to push that in then use your cup to push the lever and dispense the water. I didn't realize this at first and thought it was broken.I give it 5 stars for ease of use but I am deducting 2 stars because I've had it up for two days and the water now tastes horrible like plastic. It was not like this the first day of use, so I am not sure what is going on with it. I am going to try and flush it tomorrow and see if that helps. Unfortunately the water is undrinkable as is so I am giving it 3 stars. If it is an easy fix I will amend my review.Edit: I'm on bottle #2 and have had to clean/flush this unit twice to get rid of the plastic taste. I just got another glass and it is starting to taste funky again. If anyone has any tips on how to get this to not taste like plastic every 2 gallons please let me know.I love fresh filtered water and the Magic Chef water dispenser doesn't require any plumbing. So if you are renting, or don't want to hire a plumber and fuss with under-sink or household filters, you can fill the standard 5 gallon carboys at the grocery store and load them in the bottom of this unit. You can get hot or chilled water.I have a plumbed unit sort of like this in our office and it's so convenient to have fresh cool water for guests and to refill my Reebok wide mouth 1 liter bottle to drink at my desk or in the car.The only issue with this unit is that you will have to transport in 5 gallon bottles, which weigh about 42 pounds. This means if you are older, you may need help getting it in and out of your car. The unit itself lets you load it from the bottom.I also recommend PET bottles and not glass. The used glass bottles develop scratches and can suddenly expode let alone if you drop them. A good friend, fellow guitarist, had one pop on him as he put it into his cooler and he ended up with hand surgery and a year off of practice. He was lucky; he got back his mobility but it could have been grim.The unit is certified BPA-free materials and has a tank made of food-grade 304 stainless steel for good tasting water.There is an LED light that will tell you the tank is empty.Some maintenance is required for this unit: from the manual, so you get an idea how much work it will be--Cleaning the Housing• Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the body clean. Clean the drip tray and storage cabinet asneeded.• Remove dust from the condenser coils on the back of the unit to improve efficiency.• Never use strong chemicals, gasoline, detergents, chemically-treated cloths, or any othercleaning solutions to clean the water dispenser, as these can all potentially damage the unit.• Never use detergent or chemicals that are potentially harmful to your health when cleaning.• Do not spray water directly onto the surface of the product when cleaning, as some electricalcomponents may get wet and subsequently damaged.Cleaning the Water Tanks1. Make sure the unit is off and unplugged before cleaning.2. Remove the two screws , then remove the top cover, cold water tank cover and separator .3. Pour about half a gallon of water into the cold water tank.4. Place a large water bucket beneath the drain on the back of the water dispenser, then removethe drain cover and drain the water .5. Once draining is complete, replace the drain cover, separator, cold water tank cover and topcover.
